Five decades of Cristal Rosé
People often think my job is glamorous – that I flit from lunch to dinner, from one leisurely exploration of a wine region to the next. The reality is, perhaps, disappointing. A lot of time is spent at a laptop, there are still emails and spreadsheets, and jam-packed trips often involve snaffling a sandwich by the roadside between visits. But sometimes, just sometimes, there are days that live up to the dream – such as one a few weeks ago, with a decadent lunch diving into the world of Cristal Rosé.
Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon is a fascinating winemaker, one that is never willing to settle, and constantly striving to make Champagne Louis Roederer’s already impressive wines even better – and this event shone a light on the impact he has had on the house and its wines.
