Advocating for change: William Kelley

I’ve been lucky to talk to some of the world’s greatest wine writers – and, while I’m loath to put another privileged white male on a pedestal, William Kelley’s the real deal.

Whatever you think of his background, he gets wine in a way that few do. As the editor of the Wine Advocate told me, “Apart from family time, I spend every waking moment thinking about wine.”

Too much of our conversation was unpublishable (if greatly enjoyable), but it’s clear he’s on a mission to add nuance to the way wines, and producers, are presented by the publication.

From what lies ahead for the critic to the challenges around scoring wine, read my full write-up on frw.co.uk/editorial
