Talking to Juliette Couderc, the 31-year-old vigneron at the helm of Ch. Lafite Rothschild’s Pomerol sibling

Back in early April, before I’d started delving into Bordeaux’s 2022 vintage, I sat down, over Zoom, with Juliette Couderc. She’s the same age as me and I can’t help but be in awe of her, having already spent two years leading the team at Ch. l’Evangile. While this was once a bold, rich wine, its style is evolving – as both the 2021 and 2022 (vintages made under Couderc’s influence) show clearly. And her appointment is part of wider changes in the Lafite stable, with Saskia de Rothschild clearly keen to usher in a new era – one that I’m particularly excited about.
